I just can’t pass by the Dollar Spot without taking a peek. I’m always finding something fun like stamp sets or seasonal ribbon. It is a thrifty crafter’s dream! My last trip to Target I spotted this chalkboard sign for $3. I’d love to share with you how easy it is to embellish and turn it into something worthy of your front door.
You’ll need:
- chalkboard sign
- acrylic paint
- foam brush
- washi tape
- chalk and/or chalk markerfoam brush
Did you know that washi tape works well in place of painter’s tape for small projects like this? Tape around and then use a foam brush to paint. Let your first layer of paint dry and then finish with a second coat. While the plain chalkboard is nice, I love giving it this pop of color.
After the second coat of paint has dried remove the washi tape. You should have nice, clean lines.
Now you get to have fun decorating your sign with chalk! I drew the sun with regular chalk and used a chalk marker for the words. I’ve seen both of these in the Dollar Spot before so be sure to look around.
I’m going to be using this as a welcome sign for my front door, but I think it would be cute anywhere in the house. Wouldn’t it be great to decorate seasonally or even daily? Sometimes the simplest things can be so much fun!
